What is Silestone?

Silestone is a registered trademark of Cosentino S.A, world leader in the production of quartz surfaces. The Marble Warehouse are approved fabricators of Silestone Quartz.
Silestone is an engineered stone product composed of quartz and resins combining the natural beauty and durability of stone with the consistency of an engineered product.
94% of this stone is natural quartz, one of the most resistant and attractive natural elements that exist. Silestone is produced by the skilful blending of carefully selected natural materials with less than 7% colour & bonding agents (Inorganic pigments & a polyester resin).
The colouring agents mean that Silestone offers a vast array of colours (either with a polished surface or a leather textured surface).

The Qualities of Silestone Quartz

Natural Beauty: Silestone has an elegance & beauty only comparable with the prettiest of natural stones such as quartz or diamond. The natural quartz of Silestone gives a distinguished density, shine and brilliant sparkles. Also, natural defects such as veining and pores are eliminated.

Colour: Silestone is available in over 50 colours. It is very difficult not to find the appropriate colour for any style, design or texture.

Stain Resistance:  Silestone is a non-porous surface that is highly resistant to staining caused by coffee, wine, lemon juice, olive oil, vinegar, makeup and many other products that are used every day.

Scratch Resistance:  There are only 3 natural stones (Diamond, Sapphire & Topaz) harder than quartz. This make s Silestone highly resistant to scratches. Taking into consideration the Mohs hardness scale, Quartz is ranked 7th. However, it is recommended not to abuse its characteristics.

Versatility: Silestone can be used for any interior surface, including kitchen & bathroom tops, stairs, panels, bathtubs, floors, walls & tables.

Shock Resistance: Silestone has a great shock resistance, which guarantees safety in the kitchen when handling very hard objects (trays, pans etc). The resistance is achieved by the quartz (which gives it it's hardness) and polyester resin (elasticity) and the vibrocompression system used during the production process.

ANTIBACTERIAL SILESTONE

Silestone Worktops now contain Microban Antibacterial protection, which suppresses the growth of harmful bacteria such as salmonella, e-coli & listeria. Silestone worktops now provide more hygiene because its protection is incorporated in the production process, with each quartz particle being protected.

What benefit do I get from Silestone with Microban Antimicrobial protection?
Microban protection continuously fights the growth of microbes that can cause stains and odours. Microban protection makes your Silestone worktops easier to clean and gives added protection between each clean.

How is Microban Protection effective?
It is effective against most common bacteria, yeats, moulds & fungi.

Is Microban Protection safe?
Microban technology has undergone extensive independent laboratory testing.

How long does Microban Antimicrobial protection last in Silestone?
It is built in during the manufacturing process, becoming part of the molecular structure of Silestone and will not wash off or wear away.

Do I still have to clean my  Silestone worktop?
Yes. Microban inhibits the growth of bacteria, but cannot replace the need for good and regular hygiene practices. On a day to day basis Silestone simply requires a wipe down with soap and warm water which will maintain its natural beauty and shine. As Silestone is not porous it does not require the application of any surface sealants and is naturally highly resistant to surface staining from cooking oils, wine, coffee etc.

Does any other worktop, vanity top or other quartz surface contain Microban?
No. Silestone has an exclusive agreement with Microban International and is the ONLY quartz surface in the world to offer antimicrobial protection

Polished or Leather Surfaces
Whilst the high gloss polished surface continues to be the most popular finish, there has been a shift towards warmer, earthier textures and surfaces as people are looking for design alternatives. Design trends are beginning to lean towards Matt finishes and only Silestone offers this elegant leather texture. The new leather finish brings an additional richness and luxury to kitchen surfaces. Silestone leather is currently only offered in select colours ranging from conservative to more daring colours.

Thicknesses
We supply Silestone in 12mm, 20mm and 30mm thicknesses only. 20mm and 30mm are the most common thicknesses used in the industry.

Technical Aspects
Silestone slabs come in sizes of 3.04 x 1.38m so therefore the maximun available length of Silestone worktop is goverened by this. However, this is not to say that we can always manufacture worktops at just over 3 metres in length due to the mechanical properties of the Silestone. Cutting holes in the Silestone (e.g. for sinks and hobs) makes the quartz  more liable to crack during transit or installation. The general rule is the greater the number of holes and the greater the length, then the more likely the quartz is to crack during handling.
